The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestras of Atlanta is a
community-based youth orchestra founded to provide young students
with an opportunity to continue their music education in a full
orchestra setting, work directly with professional musicians, and
perform in public.
The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestras of Atlanta (MYSO)
begins its nineteenth successful year of providing orchestral
education and performance of great orchestral literature to talented
string, wind, brass and percussion students from the metropolitan
Atlanta area.
The primary goal of MYSO of Atlanta is to further the music
education and experiences of its members. Repertoire is specifically
chosen by our conductors to challenge and broaden the scope of
performance experience for our musicians.
MYSO of Atlanta is committed to developing the educational
opportunities of Atlanta's talented musicians. As such, we continue
to expand the music programs available to the MYSO student. We offer
public performances, sectional coaching, chamber music ensemble
training, and performance, scholarship awards for continuing music
education, and travel opportunities.
Travel has become an exciting and integral part of our musical
education program. MYSO receives invitations to perform in many
exciting venues beyond the Atlanta area. MYSO's Symphony Orchestra
was invited to perform in the Youth Performance series at Carnegie
Hall and on April 14, 2002 played to a standing ovation! What an
experience for the musicians--to play in the same hall as
Tchaikovsky and other illustrious musicians.
While exact travel details have not been finalized, MYSO members
can expect to be on the road performing and enjoying other cultures
and places again this year! Recent trips have taken MYSO members to
the Big Apple, the Midwest Band Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, IL,
GMEA functions in Savannah, GA, Piccolo Spoletto in Charleston, SC,
to the Super Bowl Halftime Show during Super Bowl XXXIV in Atlanta,
Beijing, Nanjing, and Shanghai China.
