String Orchestra Audition Information

To Qualify to Audition, each new and returning musician must meet the following criteria:

• Age: 13 (before September 1) years and younger

• Grade: Eighth grade or below

• Play one of the following instruments: Violin, Viola, Cello or Bass

• Take private instruction on your instrument

• Complete a blind five (5) minute audition to include the following:

  • Perform a solo work (musician's choice) from the standard classical repertoire not to exceed 2 minutes in length

  • Perform the excerpt listed on the side of the page

  • Perform the scales listed below

• Complete an application and mail with a check payable to MYSO of Atlanta, in the amount of $25.00 (non-refundable) to MYSO of Atlanta - P.O. Box 14163 - Atlanta, GA 30324

Prepared Scales:

Violin: G major scale, three octaves, slurred 2 notes to a bow
Viola: C major scale, three octaves, slurred 2 notes to a bow
Cello: C major scale, three octaves, slurred 2 notes to a bow
Bass: G major scale, two octaves, slurred 2 notes to a bow

• Have read and agreed to abide by the rules and regulations outlined in the MYSO Policies & Procedures Handbook

• Have reviewed and can commit to the Rehearsal and Concert Schedule

• Have reviewed and can adhere to MYSO’s Absence Policy
