Symphony Orchestra
Audition Information
To Qualify to Audition,
each new and
returning musician must meet the following criteria:

Age: 13
(before September 1) – 21 years
-
Grade:
Minimum of Eighth grade
-
Play one
of the following instruments: Strings, winds, brass, percussion,
harp or piano
-
Take
private instruction on your instrument
-
Complete a
blind ten (10) minute audition adjudicated by professional musicians
by performing a solo work (musician’s choice) from the standard
classical repertoire not to exceed 5 minutes in length and excerpts
-
Complete
an application and mail with a check payable to MYSO of Atlanta, in
the amount of $25.00 (non-refundable) to MYSO of Atlanta - P.O. Box
14163 - Atlanta, GA 30324
Prepare Scales
(3 Octaves):
Violin: B flat Major and D Major
Viola: E flat Major and F Major
Cello: E flat Major and F Major
Bass (2 Octaves): F Major and G Major
Clarinets:
Audition excerpts may require only the B Clarinet. However, once
selected, each member of the clarinet section must obtain and become
proficient on the 'A' clarinet.

Participate in a school music program, if one is available and
scheduling permits.
